Journeying Girl is a recital with a narrative devised and performed by pianist Lada Valešová. The programme for the recital consists of carefully selected pieces that are significant to Valešová’s development as a musician. She transports her audience on a journey through Russia and the Czech Republic, where she grew up, and then to London where she studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Journeying Girl was premiered at the historic Garrick Club in March 2014 where it met with a highly enthusiastic reception. Below are some quotes from audience members at this performance:
” She is like a female Victor Borge – a brilliant pianist and a very witty raconteur. ”
” You blew away my tiredness and headache. Your anecdotes were amusing, and your playing wonderful.”
“Thank you for and amazing evening. I loved the stories and explanations about your journey and the pieces, they painted a picture and really helped me understand the music. I loved it all, but probably my favourite was the autumn journey – I was right there with my nose pressed up against the window of the train, watching the colours change”.
Lada will perform Journeying Girl next at the residence of famous British mezzo Sarah Walker CBE and her husband Graham Allum in October.
